Anthocyanin's are a type of flavonoid, a class of compounds with antioxidant effects. They are found naturally in a number of foods including grapeskin, purple sweet potato, radish, blackcurrant, blueberry, black carrot, red cabbage, among many others that are red, blue, purple, or black. Anthocyanins are the pigments that give red, purple, and blue plants their rich colouring depending on the PH value.
In addition to acting as antioxidants it is believed that anthocyanin's may offer anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, and anti-cancer benefits. Research also suggests that anthocyanin's may also help fend off major health problems, including heart disease and cancer.
